Steam Link

Suddenly buttons swapped
Hey there, I am using steam link 1.0.16 on my raspi with an XBOX S controller, one Amazon Luna controller and Anbernic RG P01 - never had any problems so far. Today I wanted to start a game and noticed my controller behaved weirdly.
Some tests show that the B and X buttons are somehow swapped. Everything else is normal.

So I did a controller test in the steamlink app on my raspi. Results were fine, buttons registered as expected. I connect to my target computer, open steam->settings->controller->controllertest and again see that B and X are swapped.
So I figured this might be a misconfiguration on my computer and connected to a different computer within my local network and to a different steam account - and have the same problem again.

So I take my phone, connect steamlink to my PC and here both virtual controller as well bluetooth connected controllers all register correctly on my remote machine.

As far as I can tell, since today suddenly every steam link connection from my raspi results in an incorrect button assignment, although on the raspberry pi itself buttons register correctly.

Does someone have an idea how to solve this?

for temp, you can remap x/y on the link app
when its fixed, map it back to default

I have the same problem. I went to play a game on Steam Link on my Fire TV using my Luna controller. If I used Apollo and Artemis to connect to Steam on my PC, the controller was working fine. I tested it on my other Fire TV that I needed to sideload Steam Link on, and the controller worked fine on there as well. Looking at the two apps, it looks like the version on my Fire TV that is broken is much lower. I was not able to update it directly, I had to do so via a sideload as well. Once I did that and got to the latest version, everything was working okay again.
It could have been the clean install, or possibly even the cache storage. if you are already on the latest app, you can try wiping the cache in your app and see if that helps. Otherwise you may need to just reinstall it.

Another report here of swapped B and X buttons suddenly.

Using Steamlink and Xbox 360 controller

EDIT - looks like I was on the beta firmware for some reason, switched to public and it’s ok. So mabye an issue in the latest beta firmware?

Same problem here, using the physical Steam Link, and Playstation 5 controller. I would have to update the Steam Link manually with the flash drive and all that, would that work if I did that?

Also, I tried plugging in one of my (many) old Steam Controllers and it doesn't seem to be working at all. Not sure if this is related.

Solved the problem bei setting up my raspi with bookworm and installing the latest steamlink version. Works fine so far

if it works correctly on the link menus and its controller test
then its a problem with steam desktop client

you can try beta on host and see if that is the issue

In my case it was obviously a problem with the combination of the old steamlink version and the desktop client on PC. Connecting to several PCs showed the same bevaviour when using the raspi steamlink, but the android steamlink on my phone was not affected
I was having this exact problem, and I fixed it by updating my Steam Link firmware to the latest beta build. Here's the guide I followed.

on link hardware, to switch to beta, just go to menu -> system -> switch to beta
it will reboot and install the beta build

I have the exact same problem with Steamlink on my Firestick

Experiencing the same problem. Only X and B are swapped. Running steamlink software on a linux box while connected to Steam running on Windows.

The remote Linux box recognized the controller just fine. It works as expected in the start menu. But once actually connected to Steam running on Windows, X and B are swapped.

Tried enabling and disabling Steam input. Attempted to download different community controller settings. No luck.

EDIT: as OP mentioned, I updated my Steam Link client and it works again. I used flatpak to install it, so ran "flatpak update" and problem solved. X and B work as expected again.
